Running smoothly and on track

Cross-country skiing - the rules make it easy

Keep your distance, avoid oncoming traffic ... we at the Sonnalp want you to have a safe trip around the cross-country ski runs.

There are only a few simple rules to follow and you'll be both with yourself and your cross-country counterparts.

Here's our simple guide:
  • Always travel in the direction shown and always on the right. When there is a group of several athletes they appear to be marching in single file - but much quicker of course.
  • Overtaking is possible on both sides - left and right, both on the trail and outside. The more careful cross-country skiers can let the more sportier types pass. If you treat yourself to a break . move away from the track!
  • In the case of only one track having been prepped, move to the right if there is oncoming traffic. If you are moving in a downhill direction, you have priority over those coming uphill. Important when overtaking and when there are oncoming skiers: keep your sticks close to your body.
  • And just as if you were sitting in your car: customise your speed according to the dangers, the visibility, traffic density and gradient of the slope - and your personal ability.
